The Wanderer is dedicated to Miklós’ sons; Noah and Beau Janek.
When I first met Miklós he was very shy about his music. I kept asking him to play and sing me something. He finally agreed as long as he could have his back to me - how beautiful is that. I was already falling in love with him but when I heard him sing I was done for. Something beautiful, tender and true was revealed when he sang; like witnessing direct communion with source.
Our house and lives were always full of song, Miklós would sing from the moment he woke and knew every Beatles song by heart. When it came to his own music however it was more private and personal. I constantly encouraged him to share his music, but work, life and those niggling voices of disbelief got in the way.
When Miklós was suddenly facing the end of his life, his music burned brightly and recording his songs became a priority. Pretty incredible that at the end of his life this is what he turned to and held so dearly. What a beautiful, enlivening inspiration for us all - no longer a metaphor, but for him the burning truth - life is short, do what you love, share your song!
I am incredibly grateful that Tim Guy, a musician and dear friend of Miklós answered the call to record his music. The original tracks that you hear were recorded in Tim’s studio (along with the beautiful Bonnie Prince Billy cover) and Tim has carried the project so beautifully to its birth. The covers were recorded in our home, played for our first born Noah, who I was pregnant with at the time, to whom Miklós would sing and play to every day. I’m so grateful for these intimate recordings.
Miklós gave many gifts to many people during his life and he continues to offer them beyond the grave. Here is another one. His music, his heart in song. You can hear the vulnerability, courage and view from the edge, which was where he was when he recorded these songs. What a gift indeed. I always knew Miklos would share his music with the world and now here we are.
In terms of these being released posthumously, Miklós didn’t see death as an ending but rather a returning, or an evolution, the next step in this great mysterious adventure that we are all on, so he’s never far away and now here he is singing to you, still wandering, out in the stars.
Thank you to everyone who supported the making of this album from the very first seeds to full fruition including; Tim Guy, Matt Wilson, Pip Atherstone-Reid, Casey Hartnett, Dan Walker, Ben Talbot-Dunn and Suzie Wyllie, Nick Potts and Denise Janek and family.
Thank you Miklós, for your music, your gifts, your bright self and your enduring love. We are blessed and we continue to sing in your honour.
